Edit 6/25/18: got back from the appraiser this morning aaannnddd apparently he hit me hard enough to have split the hitch assembly from the frame and knocked my gas gauge sensor loose. So now it super bothers me that i cant remember anything about the point of impact
Edit 6/24/18- vent: I'm so tired of my head feeling like its stuck in a hydraulic press, of my neck being stiff to the point where no matter what position i'm in i can't be comfortable, not to mention these goddamn sounds ringing in my head. I cant drive anywhere because its overstimulating to the point where i shut down, and knowing that i wont be back to 100% for weeks just seems to make it so much worse
Edit 6/22/18: Got back from the hospital a bit ago, and i do indeed have a concussion along with whiplash and elevated blood pressure, so that's fun. Commissions will be put on hold for a bit while I recover
Edit 6/21/18: so i'm actually gonna be heading into urgent care in the morning. I've been experiencing excessive tiredness, disorientation, and i've had a dull headache. So i'm gonna go get checked out to make sure everyrhing's okay
So i'm not even sure where to begin with this. I'm not writing to garner sympathy but like...i care about people's safety on the road and stuff and i want my story to go out there as a sort of word of caution for everyone.
So yesterday I was in an accident. A guy rear ended me. We were stopped at a stop light and there was an ambulance coming in oncoming traffic, and naturally the stoplight turned green for the ambulance. I was in the front of the line, so I stayed stopped just in case the ambulance needed to turn in front of me. Well the guy that was behind me wasn't paying attention (he said he was looking for the source of the sirens, but i suspect he was actually texting but whatever, he claimed fault) and he noticed the rest of traffic moving, so he stepped on the accelerator and rammed right into the back of my still-stopped truck. He, of course, accepted fault and we got the insurance stuff done then and there and within three hours his insurance processed his liability and my truck is set to start repairs at a shop on monday. (no, we didn't call cops, since it was pretty clear who was at fault)
His car was totaled, and my truck going to have to get the rear bumper replaced, the alignment fixed, and probably several other small things including making sure the hitch assembly wasn't effected.
But like.
Guys
please be pro-active when you're driving. If you're stopped at a stop light, put a smart car's length between you and the vehicle in front of you if not more (this way if you're hit from behind, you wont ram into the car in front of you). Pay attention to your surroundings and the cars arround you. Don't cut into lanes unless you have access. Follow two to three car lengths behind the vehicle in front of you. Since my job is a driving to locations job just...like...i see so much shit, but in the 11 years i've been driving, this is my first accident.
I'm still a little shaken up about it, i have mild whiplash from it as well, but we both were lucky that we had no serious injuries and that no other parties were involved.
Stay safe on the roads guys, please. Your safety is more important than anything else while driving.
If you want to see the results of the accident, i have them up here:
imgur.com/a/dWmBpIUThe car is the other driver's car, he hit me going anywhere between 5-10mph i think? I don't know because my attention was on making sure the emergency vehicle had room to turn if it needed (which it didn't so that was kinda irritating). My trucks bumper has som nice dents and is crunch down and in a good two inches.
